Durban International Airport is about 17 km / 11 miles south of the city centre and is fairly straightforward to get to, with the main M4 southern freeway running most of the way. The airport is located off the N2 (Southern Freeway), which edges its eastern perimeter, and is also close to the R102 (South Coast Road). To the south, the Isipingo Beach resort is located next to the Isipingo River.
Directions to Durban International Airport (DUR) from the north:
- From Durban and the north, head south along the M4 freeway
- Join the N2 freeway south and then take the Airport exit (east) for Durban International Airport
Directions to Durban International Airport (DUR) from the south:
- From the south and Isipingo, head north on the N2 freeway
- Take the Airport exit east for Durban International Airport
Directions to Durban International Airport (DUR) from the west:
- Take the N3 south-east and east from Pietermaritzburg
- Head south on the N2 freeway before the city and follow the airport signs
Directions to Durban International Airport (DUR) from the east:
- Durban is situated on the coast and the eastern side of the city borders with the Indian Ocean, hence there are no road routes to the airport from the east
The N2 and M4 freeways are the main arteries feeding Durban from the north and south, and can get congested during holiday periods and rush hour times. We recommend that you allow yourself more time when travelling to Durban International Airport during these busy periods and times of day.
