Durban International Airport (DUR)
Airport Information
(Durban, South Africa)
Located 17 km / 11 miles to the south-west of downtown Durban and close to both Isipingo and Umlazi, the recently upgraded Durban International Airport (DUR) lies within South Africa's province of KwaZulu-Natal. Just minutes from the shoreline and the city's busy port, Durban Airport is also near to Malukaza, Pietermaritzburg, Shalcross and the Umlaas River, and handles over two million passengers per year from destinations worldwide, with around 45,0000 movements.
International, regional, domestic and charter flights fly to and from Durban International via major airlines, while many other flights are handled by the larger Johannesburg Airport. The one terminal at Durban Airport is always at its busiest during the peak of the holiday season, from the middle of December to the end of January, when accommodation soon becomes scarce and at a premium.

Durban International Airport (DUR) Information: History and Facilities
Formerly the Louis Botha Airport, the Durban International Airport of today first came into existence in 1951, when it comprised just one main grass runway. Several years later, ownership of the facility passed to the Department of Transport and a passenger terminal was built in 1955.
Cash machines and bureaux de change desks are on hand in both the Arrivals and Departures halls, while a branch of the ABSA is also available, together with a small post office. There are around a dozen different types of shops at Durban's airport including duty-free outlets and branches of Hambe Kahle, Vodashop and Ocean Africa, while bars and eateries are also in good supply and include the ever-popular Spur Family Restaurant. The executive Premier Lounge is available for all passengers, regardless of airline or seat.
